I went to China on a tour during Japan's week long holiday called Golden Week (I was living there at the time).  I had pre-booked the tour in Australia, before SARS had ever been heard of.  Unfortunately, I landed in Beijing in the middle of it.  I wore a mask everywhere in Beijing and spent a lot of time in my hotel room!  I was happy to leave Beijing, as it hadn't really reached other cities.  You'll see that the photos I took in Beijing are quite devoid of the usual crowds - and that's the reason!
